I represent Ward 55 Division 19. I was elected to do so during the Pennsylvania primary in 2022, along with my wife, Barb.
Division 55-19 is bounded by Cottman Avenue and Princeton Avenue, and Hawthorne Street and Sackett Street. I only have the houses on one side of Cottman, and one side of Princeton. For the other streets I have all the houses in the block (there are no houses on Sackett or Hawthorne.) A map of 55-19 can be found here.
You will note that this is not a large area. Divisions contain between 100 and 1,200 registered voters (my division has about 279 registered voters.) I can canvass all the Democrats in my division in less than two hours. This is about 90 households, give or take.
The concerns of my neighbors mostly involve quality of life issues. I have photographed potholes in the street, written letters about street lights not working, and investigated an abandoned car at one point.
Most voters in the division are pretty friendly. They appreciate the literature I provide, and have been willing to sign petitions for candidates. I like canvassing because it means that when I see them on election day at the polling place, they know who I am, and there is a better chance they will vote for the candidates I am backing.
