Happy New Year to everyone in Ward 55. 2025 will bring a number of opportunities and challenges for the Democratic Party, including:
- The District Attorney’s Race in Philadelphia: Current incumbent Larry Krasner is still popular in some quarters of Philadelphia, but faces an uphill climb in other sections of the city, including Northeast Philadelphia. In contrast to Christy Brady, who seems like a sure bet in the Philadelphia City Controller’s race, Krasner’s reelection is not a lock Stay tuned.
- Resistance to Trump: It is no secret that incoming President Donald Trump does not like Philadelphia. Expect to see City and Commonwealth attorneys locking horns with the Trump administration in court as we enter the second Trump era. Expect a flurry of headlines around education and immigration early in 2025 as Trump takes office.
- Resurrection of the Democratic Party Brand: The Democratic Party in Pennsylvania suffered some tough losses in 2024. While I believe the party can bounce back, there is work to do. Expect to see Democratic leaders in Pennsylvania taking a hard look at the events of the last year.
I am still optimistic that our best days as a country are ahead of us.
